You know how winter can get if you live in the Northeast like me.
It’s dark, it’s cold, and it’s depressing.
It’s a total buzzkill for staying motivated on your exercise routine.
But there are a few simple things that you can do to make sure that you stay on track.
1.) Exercise First Thing in the Morning
I know exercising might be the last thing you want to do when you wake up in the winter time and it still dark outside.
However, my clients that make exercising their first priority always have the best results when it comes to improving their body composition and health.
It’s the eat-the-frog concept.
Do the worst first.
Whatever you want to call it.
When you make a commitment to yourself that your health is a priority, you are establishing that you are a ‘healthy person’.
It’s an identity-driven process.
These are the most powerful when it comes to changing your habits.
Wake up and hit the gym before you start any work and you will set yourself up for a productive day and solidify that you are the type of person that puts your health first.
Don’t think about it, just do it.
Half the battle is getting into the freezing car and driving to the gym.
2.) Get Outside
Most people spend even less time outside during the winter months for obvious reasons.
However, if you can get yourself moving outside, even on the coldest days – you will invite vigor back into your life.
Challenging your body to the elements is like a strong cup of coffee.
It wakes you up and makes you feel alive.
You’ll feel like you are dragging at first, but once you get some warm clothes on and hit the trail – something magical happens.
Your senses awaken, and you become present.
Our modern lifestyles have made us sedentary and have divorced us from our natural surroundings.
When you invite nature back into your life, you become connected again.
It’s really not some hippy shit either.
Just try it.
Even if you live in a city and there is not a lot of green space.
Get your wool socks on and get outside and watch the winter blues drift away.
3.) Make time for Travel
I get that your job is busy and you have immense responsibility.
But if you can make a little time for travel, and preferably to a warm place with sunshine, your body will feel a whole lot better.
Part of the motivation kill in winter is the lack of sunshine.
We all know that zombie-like look that everyone seems to get in the Northeast during February.
Let your health be a good excuse to spend a few days recharging in Cabo.
A little break from the blustering winter is sometimes all it takes to come back and get on course with your workouts.
Even better, while you are away – make sure to get your workouts in.
Changing your environment and working out somewhere completely different is a great way to spice things up.
Sun + change of environment is all you need.
