3 Ways to Exercise in Stone Ridge New York

The past couple of years have been wild, to say the least.

Many have departed from the NYC chaos in order to seek some upstate New York calm.

Some have even closed on the house of their dreams and are now officially residents.

Whether you are just visiting, up here half time, or up here permanently – I want to give you 3 ways to exercise in Stone Ridge, the lovely hamlet situated in Ulster County New York.

1.) Hire a Personal Trainer

Although you won’t find an Equinox in Stone Ridge – you will find quality personal training.

After leaving NYC during the pandemic, I relocated my concierge personal training practice to the Hudson Valley, where I originally grew up.

Like myself, I knew the new wave of residents would miss the superb services and conveniences of NYC.

I wanted to do everything in my power to bring that familiar quality with a capital Q, here to the upstate community.

My in-home personal training practice centers around safe, pain-free movement solutions for individuals noticing changes in their physique and physical abilities.

If you want to get in shape, accountability is everything.

Hiring a personal trainer that comes to your home will make it a lot easier for you. You can learn more about my concierge services here.

2.) Head to the Gym

Whether you are in Stone Ridge for the weekend or up here to stay – there is always time for a gym session in between all of your other fun upstate activities.

When I first moved from NYC back upstate, I was looking and looking for a gym that was conveniently located.

That’s when I found Ridgewell Fitness.

They are right off of scenic 209 at 3555 Main St, Stone Ridge, NY 12484.

If I’m not working out at home, I will often come here and get a workout in.

The owners of the place are really friendly and it definitely has that upstate charm.

I occasionally train some of my clients here as well and find the atmosphere super inviting.

3.) Go For a Hike

The ashokan reservoir

There is nothing better for your mental and physical health than getting outside for a walk through the pristine Catskill territory.

My go-to place right near Stone Ridge is the Ashokan Reservoir.

It is at the eastern end of the Catskill Park and is one of several reservoirs in the region that provides the drinking water to New York City.

So if you have ever wondered where the water from your NYC apartment comes from – it was sourced up here!

If you are lucky, you may even spot an Eagle on your walk as they nest all along the reservoir.

The most convenient spot to walk the reservoir is on the paved promenade which stretches 2.8 miles along its southern shore.

The best way to find the exact spot I am talking about is by typing in these coordinates to your google maps GPS: (41.9480200, -74.1814678).

You can park your car here and begin your hike.

The Hudson Valley has so much to offer and if you are lucky enough to live near Stone Ridge, there are many ways you can conveniently exercise.

No matter where you are in the Hudson Valley, I highly recommend checking out the historic hamlet of Stone Ridge New York – you won’t be disappointed!
